Art Amour Aventure

“Piermé’s practice is both empirical and intuitive, exploring fluid associations between the natural world and the built environment. It is an experiential and organic approach in which one exploration leads to the next. No line of inquiry is really abandoned, only adapted to a new situation.”

My work is rooted in the ancient practice of biomimicry, relying on nature as mentor. Creation arises out of the natural balance, energy, movement and interconnection I experience in the wild, challenging me to assimilate forms that will gradually shift, separate, and coalesce over time, like the fissures in a cliff or the tangled branches of a tree. In combining contrasting elements, I create an alphabet with which to speak my own language.

“It’s a journey of explosion, an adventure into the material that allows me to glide into intervening spaces

The meeting of multiple forms, whether originally compatible or incompatible, drives me to consider questions of space and width, to contemplate

the spaces in between”

--Pascal Piermé

In this work, the cut leads the creation. Lines and contours become deliberate affirmations to confirm my impulse, but also to nourish my natural way of thinking in three dimensions. Texture, colors, and relief are separated, isolated and reassembled. This undoing and melding back together is the essential energy of the work.

What at first might seem a chaotic vortex of thoughts takes shape as I work to create a coherent and integrated form.

I try to distill my work to its purest form, to arrive at its essence and, ultimately recognize its true stopping point.

INDOOR SCULPTUREs

Outdoor sculptures

I have a different intent toward a sculpture’s dynamic, depending on its size. With smaller sculpture, I want the viewers to come to me. I will use more detail, drawing them in to become intimate with the piece. Larger sculptures are the opposite. I want to go to the people. A larger piece creates a larger impact, and the felt message is very different.
